Saying goodbye to Montevideo was extremely difficult. It has been my home for six years and Nico’s for his entire life. While we are very excited about this new adventure, it was clear that letting go of family and friends was going to be heart-wrenching. Last supers, last coffees, last hugs, last letters, last goodbyes. On July 21st at 2:00pm, we gathered our entire lives that fit into 9 suitcases and a dog crate and headed to the airport in four cars. ( HUGE HUGE thank you to Cata and Juan Cadenas and Gabriel Amaral and of course our family for helping us lug our belongings and ourselves to the airport).
Getting out of the car and putting our stuff on the carts was madness. Plus, we had to reassemble the dog crate because it didn’t fit fully assembled in any car.

Once all of that was taken care of, it took four carts and almost all of us to wheel our stuff to the Latam counter. We were quickly ushered to special services, por suerte. I was thinking to myself how lucky that we started this journey in the quietness and tranquility of the Montevideo airport.

Even though it took nearly an hour and a half to get everything checked through, it really was an easy process. We said goodbye to Rena, (Nico walked her down to her checkpoint) and we said goodbye to our Uruguayan family. And just like that, we were on our way to the first leg of our new lives together in Indonesia.
